Supported Standards

IEC 61672-1

Electroacoustics - Sound Level Meters

International standard for sound level meter performance and specifications. RTAAC Suite implements Class 2 performance characteristics for frequency weighting, time weighting, and level linearity.

  • A-weighting and C-weighting per IEC 61672-1 specifications
  • Fast (125ms), Slow (1s), and Impulse (35ms) time constants
  • Level linearity within specified tolerances
  • Proper detector characteristics for RMS and peak detection

ANSI S1.4

American National Standard for Sound Level Meters

The American standard specifying sound level meter requirements including frequency weighting networks, detector characteristics, and meter dynamics.

  • Type 2 sound level meter performance
  • A-weighting frequency response characteristics
  • C-weighting for peak measurements
  • Time weighting constants per specification

ANSI S1.43

Specifications for Integrating-Averaging Sound Level Meters

Standard for integrating-averaging sound level meters used in noise surveys and environmental measurements.

  • Leq (equivalent continuous sound level) calculation
  • Statistical noise levels (L10, L50, L90)
  • SEL (Sound Exposure Level) computation
  • Proper time integration methods

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95

Occupational Noise Exposure

OSHA regulations for occupational noise exposure limits and hearing conservation programs. The Noise Dosimeter tool is designed to support compliance monitoring.

  • 90 dB criterion level support (PEL)
  • 85 dB criterion level support (Action Level)
  • 5 dB exchange rate calculation
  • 8-hour TWA (Time-Weighted Average) calculation
  • Dose percentage calculation per OSHA method

NIOSH REL

NIOSH Recommended Exposure Limits

NIOSH criteria for recommended exposure limits providing more conservative protection than OSHA requirements.

  • 85 dB criterion level
  • 3 dB exchange rate (equal energy rule)
  • REL-based TWA calculation
  • Dose calculation per NIOSH method

ACGIH TLV

Threshold Limit Values

American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists guidelines for occupational noise exposure.

  • 85 dB threshold limit value
  • 3 dB exchange rate
  • Aligned with international best practices

Calibration for Compliance

To achieve standards-compliant measurements:

  1. 1.Use a Class 1 or Class 2 certified acoustic calibrator (94 dB or 114 dB reference)
  2. 2.Calibrate your measurement microphone with a known reference source
  3. 3.Verify calibration before and after critical measurement sessions
  4. 4.Document calibration date, reference level, and equipment used
